Open Sea Leather Co.
Michael Bluth is the owner and maker behind Open Sea Leather Co. and co-owner of Hook and Hide.
His journey into leather craft began while living in Central America. Broke, and only relying on his feet to get across the country, he learned how to resole his own shoes. Using repurposed tire treads to extend the life of his footwear, he developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, durability, and thoughtful design.
Inspired by those early experiences, Michael founded Open Sea Leather Co. in 2015. Over the past decade, he has honed his skills as a leatherworker, creating everything from wallets and belts to handcrafted bags and footwear. His work reflects a commitment to quality, functionality, and timeless construction.
Sustainability remains a core value in Michael’s craft. He strives to use responsibly and ethically sourced leathers whenever possible, creating products designed to last for years and develop character with age. Through his work, Michael continues to celebrate the tradition of handmade goods while emphasizing craftsmanship, longevity, and respect for the materials he uses.
